‘Rosseti Kuban’ has equipped high-voltage power lines with bird protection systems in Adyghe energy district

Power engineers have installed 300 bird protection systems (BPS) in segments of high-voltage overhead power lines in the area of responsibility of Adyghe ‘Rosseti Kuban’ branch. The measures are aimed at preserving population of birds and reducing risks of short circuits in electrical grids.

Special devices consisting of a dielectric pattern and fasteners are mounted on traverses of power transmission lines (PTL) over insulators.

BPSs protect birds from contact with current-carrying elements of PTL as well as protecting them from electric shock, prevent contamination of insulator garlands from bird waste products, owing to which likelihood of technological disruptions in operation of electrical installations is significantly reduced.

Currently, more than 3,700 BPSs are installed in the area of responsibility of Adyghe power grids in segments of high-voltage PTL located in key ornithological territories and their buffer zones. The equipment installed by power engineers complies with GOST and standards of the Rosseti Group.

‘Rosseti Kuban’ implements a number of specialized programs on rise of the level of environmental safety and rational use of natural resources. Among them, equipping overhead power transmission line with bird protection systems holds a valuable place.
