In 2020, Rosseti Kuban specialists installed 107 thousand smart energy meters for its consumers in Krasnodar region and the Republic of Adygeya. Smart meters with an option to remote data communications have been installed for consumers without charge.

Installation of new metering devices is the first stage of implementation of the concept of digital electricity grids. Unlike their analogue predecessors, the smart meters are to transfer remotely current readings and conditions of electricity consumption to the energy company, signal about the network failure and unauthorized use of energy. Such smart meters reduce substantially the number of disputes and disagreements between the consumers, energy sales and electric grid companies, allow to minimize losses. Installation of new metering devices essentially eliminates the electricity theft, which means that it enhances reliability and quality of power supply to consumers.

There are a lot of advantages of smart meters for consumers. First of all, smart meters provide opportunity to save money by using multiple-tariff counting which allows to adjust load independently and transfer the work of power-intensive devices to the area of the lower tariff. Besides, consumers are released from the necessity to serve and repair metering devices, so the owner (the electric grid company) of smart energy meters bears a burden of operation.

Modernization of the energy accounting system in the Kuban and the Republic of Adygeya is carried out as part of the implementation of the programme “Digital transformation 2030” adopted by Rosseti group in 2018. Development and implementation of digital technologies enable to significantly increase the reliability and quality of power supply to consumers, ensure the efficiency of accounting by reducing commercial losses of energy resources.

At present, more than 280 thousand smart meters are put into operation in the area of responsibility of Rosseti Kuban. Sochi energy area is the leader in this direction, where almost 100 thousand smart meters are installed.
