Specialists from the Krasnodar branch of Kubanenergo PJSC  (Rosseti Group) have detected over 200km of illegally installed fibre-optic communication lines on power lines. The household owners were proposed either to dismantle the lines voluntary or conclude a service contract, otherwise the engineers will have to dismantle the illegal fibre-optic lines.

Crackdown on unauthorized installation of fibre-optic lines on power equipment is carried out by Kubanenergo together with the Ministry of the Fuel and Energy Complex and the Housing and Public Utilities of the Krasnodar region. Krasnodar electric networks have formed a positive judicial practice in cases involving the illegal use of electric grid facilities to install fiber optic links.

Andrei Gerasko, Director of Krasnodar electric networks, said: “Persons performing unauthorized installations not only violate the law by interfering with the operation of the power system, but also put their lives at risk. Illegal installations make it difficult to carry out repair and maintenance and emergency repairs on overhead power lines. The weight of the fiber optic cable and its tension between the supports require a mandatory calculation of the load on the pole. The load may be critical and will cause the pole to fall. This can lead to accidents, as well as disrupt the power supply to consumers.”
