In 2018 specialists from Sochi branch of Kubanenergo PJSC (Rosseti Group) installed over 35 thousand smart meters in Sochi and Tuapse free of charge. The project was implemented as part of energy service contracts and aims at reduction of losses, increase of quality and reliability of supply.
Energy service contract is an agreement that is concluded between the energy company and a private investor. The contract ensures rendering services aimed to decrease losses by automation of electric energy accounting. Kubanenergo was among the first companies of Rosseti Group to use private investments for financing this project. Thanks to the project the company will manage to reduce electricity losses and thus save money that will be returned to investors.
Starting in 2015, Sochi branch of Kubanenergo has installed multifunctional meters for customers connected to the company’s networks for free. Among them are not only private houses, but also businesses, enterprises and organizations.
Along with it, customers will gain a number of advantages. First of all, this is an opportunity to save some money by accounting electricity depending on the part of the day: the meters can be programmed for multi-tariff metering and energy-intensive devices can be used at less expensive night time. In addition, the owners of smart meters are spared from the visits of supervisors, since the smart metering system is a complex of modern digital devices combined into a single network. Information from consumer devices is transmitted to the main server of Kubanenergo and then to energy selling companies, and electricity bills are then sent by mail.
The new meters have a higher accuracy and exclude the possibility of dishonest customers tampering with their electricity meters. Improving of electricity metering can prevent theft of electricity, and thus, improve the quality and reliability of power supply.
Smart meters are installed at power transmission towers near buildings. Our crews will be also replacing service drop wires with self-supporting insulated wire. Instead of bare metal wire they will use self-supporting insulated which is safer, more reliable, and environmentally friendly.
For 2019, the company plans to install yet another 21.5 thousand smart meters. In the future, in order to fulfill the instructions on creation of the Digital Network, issued by the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin in a message to the Federal Assembly, and in accordance with the development strategy of the digital power grid complex of Rosseti, Kubanenergo plans to install smart metering devices across the whole Sochi district.
