In 2017 the specialists from Krasnodar branch of  Kubanenergo PJSC  (Rosseti Group) installed 17.5 thousand antimagnetic security seals.

An anti-magnetic seal is a small sticker that is adhered to the electric meter. If the meter is exposed to a magnet and when the magnetic field is applied to the meter for a long time, the sticker changes its color.

‘Anti-magnetic seals immediately show whether the consumer had used a magnet to stop the meter or not,’ says Alexander Kharchenko, deputy director for sales and development of services at Krasnodar power networks. ‘Equipping electric meters with such seals allows us not only to reveal, but also to prove the fact of unaccounted consumption of electricity with the use of a magnet.’

Installation of anti-magnetic seals is one of the ways to combat electricity theft and tampering. Among other methods of preventing electricity theft are: moving meters to the facades of private households and use of self-supporting insulated wire that prevents unauthorized connection to an overhead power line.

Kubanenergo PJSC warns of the administrative responsibility for unaccounted and unauthorized electricity consumption:

According to the Article 7.19 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses of 30.12.2001 No. 95-FZ (with amendments as of 30.12.2015), unauthorized connection to electric grids, heating networks, oil pipelines, oil product pipelines and gas pipelines, as well as unauthorized use of electric, thermal energy, oil, gas or oil products, if these actions do not contain a criminal offense, shall entail the imposition of an administrative fine on citizens in the amount of ten thousand to fifteen thousand rubles; on officials – from thirty thousand to eighty thousand rubles or disqualification for a period of one to two years; on legal entities – from one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand rubles (in the edition of the Federal Law No.307-FZ of 03.11.2015).
