Since the beginning of this year specialists from the South-Western branch of Kubanenergo PJSC  (Rosseti group) diagnosed 35 high voltage power lines with thermal imaging cameras in Anapa, Gelendzhik, Novorossiysk and Krymsk districts. The total length of the power lines is 730km.

These lines are cruel to ensure the power system keeps lights on for several thousands of homes, social infrastructure facilities and businesses.

Thermal imaging inspection is diagnosis of equipmeent in the infrared region of the spectrum. Thermal imaging is an effective way of detecting thermal insulation defects and reducing costs on construction expertise. The summer period is the most suitable time for carrying out thermal imaging control of power transmission lines, since overhead power lines are under maximum possible load.

Dmitry Golovakha, Director of South-Western branch of Kubanenergo, said: “Such a survey enables us to identify hidden faults on transmission lines and take measures to quickly eliminate them at an early stage. This helps prevent serious technological violations and reduce the cost of maintenance of electrical equipment. The thermal imaging diagnostics, along with its high accuracy, shows it worth also in the fact that it does not require power cutoff.”
