During a two months campaign to clampdown on electricity theft, the employees of South-Western electric networks, branch of Kubanenergo PJSC (Rosseti group), detected 72 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption, in total 2 million kWh were consumed without authorized access to networks. All homes and businesses that were engaged in such activities were issued claims that obligate them to reimburse for the damage caused to the Company, which is 5.2 million in total.
Such campaigns are regularly held in Novorossiysk, Anapa, Gelendzhik, Abinsk, and Krymsk districts of the region.
Dmitry Golovakha, director of South-Western electric networks, commented: “As of today we have 42 cases under which the violators paid over 800 thousand rubles, other cases are being reviewed by the court. Thieves are putting their lives at risk, and these thefts can also be a risk to the safety of the public. The law applies administrative and penal sanctions for such cases.”
We should remind that starting from 1 January 2016, the government toughened administrative sanctions for unauthorized and unaccounted consumption of electric energy. According to article 7.19 of “the Russian Federation Administrative Offence Code” tampering with electricity meters and unauthorized connection to networks are punishable by an administrative fine from 10 to 15 thousand rubles for individuals and 100-200 thousand rubles for businesses.
