Specialists of Adygeiskiye electric networks, branch of Kubanenergo PJSC (Rosseti group), have installed 210 bird protection devices on 110kV power lines “BelGES – DM8”, “Tsentralnaya – Apsheronsk” and “Martanskaya – BelGes” in Apsheronsky and Belorechenskiy districts of the region.

These bird protection devices are installed on strings of insulators to protect them from short circuits that could be caused by the birds and therefore prevent possible power supply disturbances. During the harvest time, the amount of birds on the fields increases greatly and insulators are the bird’s favourite place to sit on. Vladimir Papukov, director of Adygeiskiye electric networks, said: “We started installation of these special devices that are meant to protect HV lines from birds in March this year. They have already proved their effectiveness, so we are determine to continue installation of the devices. We plan to install such protection on all HV lines in the area of farmlands. The devices are absolutely harmless to birds.”

For reference: the modern bird protection devices are polymer covers that are installed on overhead power lines to prevent birds of all sizes from getting electrocuted. For a more effective implementation of environmental activities, Kubanenergo uses the latest developments by installing bird protection devices of the latest generation, which are made of high tech dielectric materials. Technical experts point out that the company cares about the observance of the environmental balance and preservation of nature.
