Fire training at large grid facility in Krasnodar

Employees of Krasnodar branch of Kubanenergo and 12th fire brigade have conducted fire training at 110kV substation “Severnaya” in Krasnodar. This facility is a key facility supplying electricity to over 20 thousand consumers and 160 businesses and vital infrastructure.

According to the drill scenario, the duty operator of Krasnodar electric networks, branch of Kubanenergo JSC, got a call from citizens on equipment catching on fire at substation “Severnaya”. The dispatcher immediately informed the single dispatching department 112 and management of the company. In just a few minutes fire crew arrived at the accident scene to conduct fire-fighting operations.

Operating crew under the guidance of the dispatcher took measures to create a safe working environment and arranged access of the fire brigade to this facility. Power men conducted the fire engine to the place of accident and made sure it is grounded. Fire brigade were given insulating gloves and shoes, then they got instructions, were granted an access to facility, they were also provided with information on the location of potential hazardous equipment, which cannot be approached in the process of extinguishing the fire without the use of personal protective equipment. Due to rapid and well-coordinated work of the staff of Krasnodar electric networks and firefighters, the team managed to tackle “the blaze” in no time.

The participants of this drill had helmet cameras to observe the process of the fire drill and analyse it later. It was concluded that all participants of this drill made a good work of this training.

- The substations are strategic facilities and hazardous locations that is why such fire drills are essential, - said Evgeniy Rud, head of Krasnodar electric networks, branch of Kubanenergo JSC, such training help advance practical skills in firefighting, enhance cooperation between power engineer and fire brigades while dealing with accidents and fires. After everything was over, the specialists have conducted a detailed analysis of this training.
